Meet Our Training Team

Wong Fong Yang

Pastor and church planter
Rev. Wong Fong Yang graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and holds a Master of Divinity from Singapore Bible College as well as a Master of Theology from Trinity Theological College, Singapore. He is the founding pastor CDPC church. He is also the former Moderator of Presbyterian Church of Malaysia. Presently he sits on the board of directors of Gospel City Network, Malaysia.

He has authored two books: The Christian’s Dilemma concerning food offered to Idols and Church Discipline - The Dynamics of Shame. Married to Constance, they have two children - Sarah and Samuel.

Michael Crane 

SEMINARY LECTURER AND CHURCH PLANTER
Dr Michael Crane (MDiv, ThM, PhD) loves cities and the church. Michael has lived in Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and San Francisco.

He serves as faculty of two seminaries and is a co-director of Radius Global Cities Network, an urban research think-tank that assists the church in seeking the welfare of the city.

He is involved in training and equipping church planters through City to City. Michael has contributed to a number of books and articles on topics related to the city.

Yee Siew Meng

Senior PASTOR 
Rev. Yee Siew Meng, or Meng as he is fondly known, is the lead pastor of CDPC Subang Jaya. Siew Meng holds a degree in Finance and Human Resource and worked a number of years as a Business Consultant before running his own international business for 15 years. In his spare time, he serves the community in various areas and is passionate about social justice. In 2012, Siew Meng pursued an MDiv from Seminari Theologi Malaysia, and now serves the church in Subang Jaya. Meng is married to Connie, and together they have 3 children: Bryan, Justin and Ellisa.

Kyle Essary

SEMINARY LECTURER AND CHURCH PLANTEr
Dr. Kyle Essary grew up in the United States, although he has also lived in Yemen, China, and for most of the past decade—Malaysia. He is married to Jamie, and God has blessed them with four children—Andrew, Abby, Anna, and A.J—three of whom were born in Malaysia!

He serves as a lecturer in biblical studies for four seminaries in SE Asia, but primarily with MBTS. He was the church planting pastor of Covenant Baptist Church in Melaka and his family currently serves at Gospel City Church in Kuala Lumpur.

Ian Chris

pastor and ChurCh Planter
Ian grew up in Indonesia, and married his Indonesian sweetheart, with whom he has four children. He holds a degree in the Recording Sciences, a Licentiate in Theology, and is finishing up a Masters of Divinity at Malaysia Bible Seminary.

Besides his work in media, music, and writing, Ian has been a construction worker, a petrol-pump attendant, a limousine driver, a vacuum-cleaner salesman, a dock worker, an aircraft mechanic, a grocery store clerk, a lorry driver, a factory worker, and a nightclub bouncer.

He can often be seen riding a motor-scooter around the streets of Kuala Lumpur, laughing to himself.

Gideon Lim

PASTOR
Gideon is the Director of Mandarin Ministry and Network Catalyst of Gospel City Network. He was the lead pastor at Kelang Baptist Church and Shreveport Chinese Baptist Mission, USA. He holds an MS in Chemistry from University of Louisiana and an MDiv from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv).  

Gideon is married to Judith from USA and they are blessed with 5 children: Josiah, Nathanael, Phoebe, Micah, and Chloe. Gideon enjoys being a child of God, a husband, a parent, and a pastor.

He enjoys reading, playing and watching sports, and helping people (re)discover the power of the Gospel, so they live Christ-centred lives and impact their world.

Massimo Gei 

Elder and ChurCh Planter
Massimo is an elder at Gospel City Church, a church he co-planted in Kuala Lumpur (KL) in 2017. He is also the executive director of Gospel City Network. 

Massimo is from a mixed Malaysian and Italian background, was born in Melaka and grew up in 6 countries. After coming to faith Massimo left his corporate position for full-time ministry and pursed theological education at a local seminary.

Massimo is married to Gloria, who is a director at one of the big four accounting firms. Together they are passionate to minister to young professionals who struggle with their identity and desire to help them find and live out their faith in Jesus in this culturally diverse, money driven, spiritually complex city.

James So

Seminary Teaching Assistant
Brother James So is a currently a full-time student at the Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary, doing his final year of Master of Theology.

He serves at the International Church @ Month Kiara, and has been involved with Gospel City Network ministries over the past two years.

James is married to Kah Yi and they have three young daughters.
